Clay mask

Face care masks - they are always "in" due to their ability to significantly improve the condition of our skin in a very short period. "Last minute" intervention before an important event or as a regular addition to your regular routine, masks can replace certain routine steps and can be a great alternative to some stronger actives that are sometimes very difficult to fit into existing routines.

Hydrating masks that intensively moisturize the skin, give it an additional "plumping" effect, and sometimes we leave them on all night, instead of cream, for an even better effect, are suitable for everyone. However, the complete opposite of them are clay masks - how they are used, for whom and what - find out below.

Clay masks are recommended mainly for combination to oily skin that visibly struggles with excess sebum and excessive skin shine, and skin prone to clogged pores and blemishes. Despite this, they can be used by all skin types, as occasional treatments or as a substitute for certain active ingredients that, for example, dry to normal skin is a little more difficult to tolerate (e.g. salicylic acid, which can be quite drying, so instead, as a spot treatment, some clay mask.)

We can often see how certain brands give them "detox" properties through marketing - they promise to remove toxins from the skin and thus improve the appearance of the skin. Although clay masks cannot do this, like no other product, there are numerous benefits that make them one of the favorite steps of the skincare routine for many.

How do clay masks work?

The primary function of these masks is absorption of excess oil - they are excellent absorbents, have an exceptional power to remove excess sebum, and are therefore an excellent choice for oily skin types or certain areas of the face that are more oily (T-zone).

We often find them in formulations with soothing ingredients, so they are an excellent choice for skin prone to inflammatory processes and clogged pores.

They also perform superficial skin peeling - removing dead cells and refining the texture. With regular use, they can visibly reduce the visibility of pores because they remove accumulated sebum threads and dead cells, and are therefore an excellent prevention of clogged pores and inflammatory processes.

BEAUTY OF JOSEON Red Bean Pore Mask

Although there are several types of clay, in cosmetics we most often encounter two forms - kaolin clay and bentonite clay.

Kaolin, also known as white and Chinese clay, is a natural clay consisting primarily of kaolinite minerals. Bentonite, clay from volcanic ash, is also mostly white in color and reaches end users in a purified form safe for use in cosmetics. Both clays are excellent for mixed to oily skin because they have exceptional properties of absorbing excess sebum, with regular use they visibly reduce excessive skin shine and improve damaged skin texture.

Masks with these clays are used after cleansing the face, on slightly damp skin, and are left on for five to ten minutes. They are then gently washed off and the rest of the routine continues, where the emphasis should be on sufficient hydration. The frequency of use depends on your needs - the recommendation is once to twice a week, during the summer heat when the skin sweats/oils more, and if you have resistant, extremely oily skin, it is possible to use it more often.

When used as a cleanser, it should be lathered in the hands and gently massaged on the face, while as a mask it is applied in a thicker layer, left on for about 10 minutes and then washed off the face.

TOCOBO – Coconut Clay Cleansing Foam
The last product in our offer is a face cleansing foam based on bentonite clay - it creates a microfoam that enters the pores, deeply cleans them, and is gentle enough for everyday use. It reduces the excessive shine of the skin while at the same time having a soothing effect.
